I'll take a stab at answering, since I own a fake Lissie and a fake Molly.

The eyes don't look "right," because they, along with the rest of the doll, are cheaply made knock-offs.

I do agree that the dolls seem to be made in China.

And there are some other tell tale signs of a fake doll. Usually, they will be sold without shoes, as many of their feet are larger than the real AGs, so the real AG shoes will not fit.

And the wigs are usually different. Some fake dolls have really cheap wigs--my Lissie and my Molly both have pretty good hair--not quite up to the real AGs, but not bad like say, a Battat. Hair coloring can be another clue--as some fake dolls have hair color which is not right (the fake Lindseys especially seem to have almost black hair).

    Hope this helps.

Oh and one more thing to add about the wigs!!!

The fake AG wigs have a wight tag under them. I own a fake AG so I noticed this when I was washing the wig and it just popped of!

    Miss Curly Cat -

In this thread you state you own a fake AG doll.

Yet, in the last thread on the "fake" Lindsey, you wrote:

"I would love to have a fake AG doll, but not for $200 or more!!!!"

So do you, or do you not, have a fake doll? When your posts are inconsistent, people have a hard time believing what you write.

I do own a fake AG, I just have a hard time thinking of her as a fake. In fact the fake AG I own is actually the one Kayta bought on eBay, she sold it once she got it and I bought it. I think of her as a wannabe. She does have a tag on her that says 'made in china for American girl', but I don't know who she's supposed to resemble , maybe an AGT? Sorry if I was a little inconsistent. I'll try to be more clear in the future!

IMO, it's sad to be a wannabe but in a sweet sort of way. The AG girls are pre-teens and often that is a wonderful age. It is also an age of insecurity for some girls and of not knowing exactly who you are. It just makes your doll more "real" to call her a wannabe. [img]graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
